February 16, 2005

Albany -- Four juveniles arrested in a sweep of the C.M.E. Rattler street gang last month, will be tried as adults.

The four juveniles, ranging in age from 16 to 20, face numerous gang participation and theft charges.

All were arrested in January 27th raids on homes suspected to be connected with the C.M.E. Rattlers street gang. The four juveniles will be tried with 7 other adults arrested in the sweep.

Chief Assistant District Attorney Greg Edwards said "For the purpose of judicial economy, it's gonna be the same evidence generally against these same individuals. So that it would make for one resolution of the case."

One juvenile arrested in the sweep will be tried in juvenile court, because he is not yet 16

. Edwards says the gang investigation continues, with more arrests expected.

If convicted, the Rattlers could face more than 20 years in prison.
