Former Albany coach arrested

Johnny Gilbert, 2002 Johnny Gilbert, 2002

Atlanta-- A former Monroe High School and Albany State football standout, now the head football coach at McNair High School, has been arrested for sexual misconduct with students at the school.

Thirty-five-year-old Johnny Gilbert is charged with two counts of child molestation, and other sex crimes. School district spokespersons say both students, one girl and one boy, were under 17 years of age. The charges stem from one incident.

Gilbert played quarterback at Monroe High and then at Albany State. He was an assistant football coach at Monroe High, before becoming McNair head coach six years ago.

Gilbert is being held in the DeKalb County jail without bond.
