Bainbridge- Educators in Bainbridge are inviting community leaders into the schools to read to the children. They say that enhances academics while instilling a love of books.
West Bainbridge Elementary School Principal Linda Lumpkin and participants of the program both say it's a necessity. "This makes it more fun for them because they love to have visitors and it breaks the traditional role of having the media specialist or the classroom teacher read to them," says Lumpkin. "Me as a district attorney, you don't want to see these kids down the road. And so if you can encourage education as a way for them to excel in life, a lot of times I won't have to see them," says participant District Attorney Joe Mulholland.
Doctor Lumpkin adds that, usually, the guest readers are more dramatic and entertaining, which helps keeps the kids' attention and enthusiasm more.
