The Governor appoints a panel to determine if an indicted Albany city commissioner will stay in office.

Henry Mathis is accused of voting to give an alcohol license to an Albany nightclub then extorting money from Joe McDonald, a businessman connected to the club.

Governor Perdue appointed the Mayor of Decatur Bill Floyd and Macon City councilwoman Anita Ponder to serve with General Thurbert Baker to the investigative panel.

The group has 14 days to decide if the indictment adversely affects Mathis's ability to serve as city commissioner while awaiting trial.

No trial date has been set.
