Blazers honored at capital

February 14, 2005

Valdosta - A South Georgia football team will be recognized at the state capital for winning a national championship.

The Valdosta State Blazers will travel to Atlanta Tuesday where they'll be honored at a special luncheon with Governor Sonny Perdue.

Senator Tim Golden and Representative Ron Borders of Valdosta will introduce the team and coaches to the House and Senate and read a resolution in their honor.

"I think its well deserved, its something that's brought a lot of attention to our community, so everything that we're getting is definately well deserved," said Coach Chris Hatcher.

The Blazers defeated Pittsburgh State in December to earn the NCAA Division 2 National Championship.
