Quail Unlimited hosts dinner and auction

February 12, 2005

Albany- Hundreds of celebrities, landownders and hunters filled the Civic Center after a long day on the plantations. "You can work up quite a big appetite when you're out there hunting", says former NFL tight end Wesley Walls.

This is the second day of the 19th annual celebrity quail hunt. "This was our biggest event ever, more celebrities, more people here. The turnout from Albany has been tremendous," says Quail Unlimited Vice-President Rocky Evans. And today's quest for quail ended with a dinner and Live Auction.

Evans says, "We have a number of high grade shotguns that were gonna auction off tonight and we've got a number of great trips." 57 celebrity guests made their way to South Georgia to join the hunt to preserve game habitat.

Quail Unlimited hopes that funds from the raffles and auctions bring them closer to their $300,000 goal. "That was our goal and tonight will tell," says Evans.

Landowner Glenn Dowling is doing what he can to help them with their efforts. "Well probably some pictures over there I've got my eye on, not gonna tell you how much I'm gonna bid on or which one, you might beat me to it." And that's the attitude organizers are hoping for to make this year's hunt a success.

Sunday hunters head to Wynfield Plantation for the last day of the hunting weekend.
