Americus-- uthorities from eight law enforcement agencies are helping Sumter County Sheriff Pete Smith with a traffic enforcement blitz. The first stop, State Route 49 outside Americus, an area where deputies say it's common to catch DUI offenders.

"We want people to be aware of the consequences of drinking and driving and trying to promote safety, and make people aware, you have more people out on a Friday night eating and drinking and we just want everybody to be safe," said Sheriff Pete Smith.

 The traffic check points ran through 2:00AM  in various locations around Americus.
