Albany -- An 11 year old  boy is arrested for setting a South Albany store on fire.

The sixth grader was I.D.'d by viewers, who called Police after seeing this surveillance photo on WALB News Ten.

The boy is charged with first degree arson, for setting a display on fire at the Family Dollar on South Slappey January 21st. Witnesses say the boy used a cigarette lighter to set shelving paper on fire in the back of the store. A customer used a fire extinguisher to put it out.

Albany Fire Department Assistant Chief James Carswell said "It was just opportunity. He decided on the spur of the moment to do it, and then of course ran out."

After being charged, the 11 year old was sent home with his Mother.

If convicted, he could face more than two years in a youth detention center. A hearing in juvenile court is scheduled Monday.
