Dougherty County -- It has been a week since a man was murdered outside his Southwest Albany home. Investigators say they are making progress in the case.

50 year old Raymond Hawkins was shot last Friday morning on his way to work. Family found his body behind the carport of his West Whitney home about 8:45.

Police want to question 58 year old Maurice Smith in the case. He has not been charged, but Investigators say he is a person of interest.

Lt. Tracey Barnes of the Albany Police said "We've been following up leads. We are hoping soon that we will be able to get a break in the case, and be able to solve this."

Investigators believe Smith left Albany after the murder. But they hope to have him return for questioning soon.
