Dougherty County-- Vice President Dick Cheney is among the guests for this years Celebrity Hunt. Air Force Two will land this evening, and the vice president, a frequent South Georgia bird hunter, will join other celebs in the fields.

This is Quail Unlimited's biggest Celebrity Hunt yet, and organizers estimate it will have more than a one million dollar impact on the South Georgia economy.

The hunters took to the fields of Wynnfield Plantation Friday morning. Quail Unlimited's Celebrity Hunt is well known. so singer Irlene Mandrell heard this hunt was special.

"It's beautiful here. And everyone's so nice and friendly and wonderful," Mandrell said.

Hunters pay big money to spend the weekend with the stars of sports, music, and Hollywood. "I think of Iowa as being a really, really cold state, yes," Mandrell said.

It all benefits Quail Unlimited's work to preserve wildlife habitat. "Without the conservation groups. There would be no wildlife. If you love your wildlife you have to support your hunters," said former NFL quarterback Heath Shuler.

Shuler enjoyed his many visits to the celebrity hunt so much, he bought a share of Wynnfield Plantation. "When I was down here, I looked at several pieces of property, and was able to hunt them. And Wynnfield came available, and I couldn't be more happy," Shuler said.

The hunters spent the day enjoying 54 South Georgia quail properties, the most ever involved in the Celebrity Hunt.

Shuler said, "How they are helping to preserve our great heritage, and quail hunting is a wonderful part of it." The hunters tonight will have a big party at the Civic Center, and then it's back out for another full day of quail hunting Saturday.

Quail Unlimited has a goal to raise $300,000 this weekend to fund their work.
