Bulldogs hire Marsh

Thomasville - Valdosta High co-defensive coordinator Richie Marsh is moving west on U.S. Highway 84.

The Thomasville city school board Thursday afternoon gave its approval to hire Richie Marsh to be the head coach at Thomasville High.

Marsh has been an assistant to Rick Darlington the last two seasons where he was coaching defensive backs. Before coming to Valdosta,

Marsh was the head coach at Bartow County High in Florida.

Richie Marsh will succeed Tommy Welch who is now the head coach at Lafayette High in northwest Georgia.

One of the six finalists for the Thomasville job could be hired on Friday morning where the Coffee County School Board is expected to approve a new head coach at Coffee High.

Several sources have told WALB News Ten sports that former East Carolina defensive coordinator Jerry Odom will be recommended for the job.

Coffee County school superintendent Billy Smith would not comment on who will be recommended for the Coffee High head coaching vacancy.
