Radio hopes for TPD

February 08, 2005

Thomasville- A 446-thousand dollar state grant would revamp the Thomasville Police Department's radios so they can communicate throughout South Georgia.

It would tie into Lowdnes County's 800-megahertz system, and would allow Thomasville officers to coordinate and travel while staying in contact. "Different agencies have different radio systems. Even those of us who share 800-megahertz radio systems often times don't share frequencies. So communications is one of the biggest hurdles we face in public safety.", says TPD Captain Mark Scott.

The grant would also allow Camilla and Moultrie to revamp their radio systems. That would help them extend their communications around South Georgia as well.
