Tift County turns 100

February 6, 2005

Tifton- Tift County was formed 100 years ago from parts of Berrien County.

Now the chamber of commerce is planning a centennial celebration which will include tributes to the county's founder Captain H.H. Tift and the railroad industry.

"It's special. A lot of things have happened since then, and it's been a big part of our history and we want to commemorate that, and thank the people. We're going to honor those that are 100 years old. They will be getting something very special," says Tyron Spearman of the chamber of commerce.

Tift County may also issue a commemorative coin in honor of their centennial year. The celebration will be held in August.
