Groundhog prediction: Sheldon says--

February 2, 2005

Albany-- The prediction is in. South Georgia will not see six more weeks of winter. Well it's not official, but Sheldon, The Parks at Chehaw's resident meteorologist predicts that winter may not be as long as expected.

He's a gopher tortoise but he has five years experience in weather predicting. "Today and for the first half of winter we've had some pretty rough storms come through so hopefully as Sheldon's predicting, we'll have a quick return of Spring," said Education Specialist Clint Murphy.

Gopher tortoises have a life expectancy of 90 years, so that means many more years of forecasts.
