January 31, 2005 from the Senate Information Office
ATLANTA -- Tifton's State Sen. Joseph Carter has been appointed a Majority Deputy Whip of the Republican Caucus by GOP Majority Whip Mitch Seabaugh. Sen.
Carter is in his first term as a State Senator, and such leadership positions generally are bestowed on those with more seniority. "I am honored to be chosen to serve as part of the Senate leadership," stated Sen. Carter. "I am thankful that they entrusted me with this responsibility and I will do my best to meet the expectations of my colleagues as well as my constituents."
"I know Senator Carter will be an asset to the Republican leadership team," Sen. Seabaugh said, following the appointment. "Senator Carter has demonstrated extraordinary leadership skills and knows how to get the job done and we are looking forward to working with him."
The role of the deputy whip is to assist the caucus leadership in mobilizing the vote on key legislative issues and objectives. Carter also will provide information on legislation to the members of the Republican Caucus and will work with the leadership in coordinating strategy within the State Senate, and will poll members of the Senate Majority Caucus on their backing of proposed law to ensure the Caucuses support of major legislation.
Sen. Joseph Carter represents the 13th Senate District which includes Ben Hill, Crisp, Irwin, Lee, Tift, Turner and Worth Counties and a portion of Wilcox County.
