Rattlesnake Roundup attendance cut by cold weather

January 29, 2005

Wigham- Organizers say they expected about 20,000 people to attend the 45th Annual Rattlesnake Roundup, but will be happy if only quarter of that amount shows up.

The event only lasts one day, but because of weather glitches like Saturday's, organizers say they may think about making it to a two-day event in the future.

"We're a community service organization, so that might limit what we're able to do as far as this coming year, but if not we'll do some other fundraisers and make do and still be able to give the community the proper service that it deserves," says Dave Ulmer, president of the Wigham Community Club.

Handlers say the cold weather actually makes the snakes calmer. Those who did attend the Rattlesnake Roundup were still able to get up close and personal with the reptiles, and even got a chance to taste a little deep fried rattle snake.
