Albany Police Chief search continues, but slows

January 26, 2005

Albany - A new Albany Police Chief won't be hired until a city manager is hired.

Slavin Management firm is helping the city search for a new Police Chief. Bob Boren has served as interim police chief since former chief Bobby Johnson was forced to retire in September.

Before hiring a new chief, city leaders first want to begin searching for a city manager. "That search is going to get underway immediately after selecting a firm next week to undertake that process," said Kevin Hogencamp, the Assistant to the City Manager. "Shortly after hiring a city manager, that city manager will be tasked with hiring a police chief."

The City is also searching for a new assistant city manager. There's no word yet on how long it will take to hire a new city manager, police chief, or assistant city manager.
