Albany - Speeding likely caused a deadly wreck on the Liberty Expressway Thursday night. 42-year-old Nemanishvill Besarion lost control of his car around 10:45PM between the Nottingham Way and North Slappey exits.

The car crossed the median and slammed into an oncoming Ford Explorer. His car was ripped in two, and the SUV overturned. The driver of the Explorer, 47-year-old Jean Jefferson, of Albany was wearing her seat belt and suffered only minor injuries.

A new Albany police task force called HEAT is now patrolling Liberty Expressway looking for dangerous drivers in hopes of stopping deadly wrecks like this one.

"They're looking for any kind of traffic violators, but they're looking for speeder particularly," said Lt. Tracey Barnes, APD.

In November alone, the two HEAT officers wrote 895 traffic citations and more than 400 were for speeding.
