Albany - Sherwood Christian Academy will have a new all-time scorer after the Eagles game against Mount de Sales Saturday night.
Senior guard Ross Knight is just three points away from breaking that record... but Knight says when he leaves Sherwood Christian he hopes that he and his teammates will be remembered for something much bigger.
The next time Ross Knight hears his name called after scoring a basket, he will likely be Sherwood Christian's new all-time scorer.
A great individual accomplishment that Ross believes will be even better for his school.
Knight said "And I feel that this is the way I am helping the school by setting records and setting the standards even higher for kids growing up."
The Sherwood record should fall rather early in Saturday's game against Mount de Sales since Ross only needs three points. But the senior point guard says his main focus Saturday is to win what Knight says is a very big non-region game.
Knight said "I don't what that to be the focus of the game. I really just want to win the game because that is a big win, Mount de Sales. That is kind of one of the big wins in the state."
And winning a state championship is something Ross Knight wants more than a scoring record, especially after the Eagles won their first GISA region basketball title last year only to lose in the first round of the state tournament.
Knight said "Everybody wants to win the state and I feel that is the highest goal we want to set this year is to win state but to advance to state, move from round to round."
Ross Knight knows that winning a state title is very special as is becoming the all-time scorer at your school- even though he knows someday down the road his record will be broken.
Knight said "Even though somebody will break your record eventually, you will still have that record in your heart. Your family will remember that and everybody remembers it."
When Ross Knight scores his third point, he will pass Mickey Carroll who currently holds Sherwood Christian's record with 1197 points.
