DMVS officers put wanted drivers behind bars

January 5, 2005

Tift County--   A routine check by Department of Motor Vehicle Safety officers led to a manhunt through south Georgia woods Wednesday night.

Tift County deputies, state troopers, U.S. Marshals and a Department of Corrections K-9 unit converged on the scene near Ty Ty on Highway 82.

It didn't take them long to catch Gregory Norman who was pulled over while driving a service truck. He was wanted for probation violation in Augusta.

Michael Lackey, 29, also of Augusta, was driving another truck. He was arrested for not having a commercial license and having a suspended license. The safety inspections also revealed problems with the trucks.

"The officer is still completing his reports, but he has safety violations on both vehicles, is my understanding and on the drivers themselves," said Captain Johnny Jones with the law enforcement division of the Department of Motor Vehicle Safety.
