Valdosta - A South Georgia hospital is celebrating a major maternity milestone!

Doctors at Smith-Northview Hospital in Valdosta delivered the 300th baby of the year Wednesday.

Luke William Fisher was born at 1:48 p.m. and weighed seven pounds eight ounces. The hospital only delivered 170 babies last year and set a goal of 300 for this year.

"I think its a great milestone because I've seen this labor and delivery unit grow from being staffed by just a few floor nurses to have a full, very well qualified labor and delivery staff," said Dr. Ellen Courson.

The hospital is already on its way to delivering the 301st baby of the year. A patient went into labor Thursday afternoon.
