Lowndes County - Nine people died on Georgia highways over the holiday weekend. That's two less than State Troopers predicted. There were nearly 1,400 accidents with more than 400 injuries.
Now state troopers are gearing up for New Year's weekend. They predict 11 fatalities. "There will be a full force effort combined with other state agencies throughout Georgia, our personnel, even our administrative personnel will be out enforcing efforts throughout the holiday period again," said Valdosta Post Commander Carl Taylor.
New Year's travel weekend starts at 6:00 Friday night and ends Sunday at midnight.
