Albany- Faster than Superman can stop a speeding bullet, Westover senior Shaun Keaton found himself on the Patriot bench with three first quarter fouls in Tuesday's championship game of the WALB Holiday Classic against Mitchell-Baker.
Keaton was the man of steel for the Patriots in the fourth quarter in sinking five free throws to lift Westover to a 71-67 win over Mitchell-Baker.
Keaton, the tournament's most valuable player, finished the game with 17 points as the Patriots celebrate their second straight WALB Holiday Classic championship.
Westover looked like they would not need the heroics from their senior guard in the first half.
The three point shooting of sophomore Perry Nelson vaulted Westover to a 17 point lead early in the second quarter.
Mitchell-Baker though took advantage of a foul prone Patriot team to chip away at the big Westover lead.
Jarvis Shedrick's three pointer gave Mitchell-Baker a 65-64 lead with two minutes to play.
But with the game tied at 67, Shaun Keaton sank four free throws in the final minute to seal the victory for the Patriots.
Jarvis Shedrick, who led all scorers with 21 points, made the WALB Holiday Classic all-tournament team along with Dougherty's Montavious Chatman, Griffin's Jay Brown, Justin Harris of Westover and Albany High's Leon Buchanan.
Dougherty High took home the third place trophy with a 66-65 win over Griffin and Albany High beats North Clayton 65-56.
