Deadly wrecks leave four dead

December 19, 2004

Irwin County - Investigators have released the identities of three people killed in a wreck Saturday afternoon on a South Georgia highway. Around 5 PM Saturday, 24-year old Charles Young of Fitzgerald was driving East on highway 32, when he crossed over the center line, striking Cecil Roe Busbin and his passenger Nannie Grimes, both of Ocilla. The two vehicles collided head-on near the intersection of Osier Field road, killing all three on impact.

An elderly Brooks County man dies in the hospital after being injured in another wreck. Troopers say 74-year old Lucius Curtis Whitfield was headed west on Ramsey Road in Brooks County around 6:30 Saturday night. His Toyota pick-up truck left the roadway and crashed into the embankment. Whitfield was transported to Archbold Hospital in Thomasville where he was being treated for his injuries. Troopers say he died about six hours later.
