Sumter County- A cow apparently waded to an island in the middle of Lake Blackshear and got stuck there. Today, she was rescued from life threatening danger.

The water is now rising after it was lowered for people to repair their docks. The cow would have likely drowned had it stayed on the island. A Georgia State Patrol helicopter crew attached a harness to their chopper. The cow, who had been sedated, was strapped in and flown over the lake to safety.

Onlooker Susan Jenkins says "I went down to the water and looked, and I saw the cow on the Island and just watched him. I waited for the helicopter. It landed, and they got it ready to go up and waited and saw them lift it up, and that was pretty interesting. I never saw a cow flying in the air before, but now I can say I have."

The cow is emaciated, but has been transported to a local foster farm to be brought back to health.
