Quitman - It was a successful mission for third graders.

Students from Quitman Elementary School made a flag from scratch. They created each stripe with hand prints.

After painting the flag, each student placed their picture next to the stripe they painted.

The flag was sent to Afghanistan where it flew with the Army on Operation Tiger Jaw.

"Them seeing the picture of the troops actually holding their flag with them in uniform and the Chinook helicopter in the background was really exciting," said their teacher, Candice Deal.

The flag and certificate authenticating its mission is on display for the entire school to see.
