Colquitt County-- The garbage truck driver responsible for knocking power out to more than 18,000 Colquitt County homes and businesses has been charged.
Sammy Washington is charged with failure to maintain a lane. Washington told troopers he swerved to miss a dog. His ONYX truck went into the ditch and snapped a transmission pole near two power substations.
The accident happened around 7:30 Wednesday morning, but some didn't get their power back on until after midnight.
