Deputies still looking for escapee

December 13, 2004

Brooks County - The search continues tonight for a South Georgia inmate who escaped while attending his mother's funeral.

Willie Charles Hollis, whose nickname is "Peanut," got away Saturday in Brooks County.

He was serving a sentence at the Lowndes County Jail but Brooks County deputies took him into custody for the funeral.

The sheriff says he'll discontinue a program in which his department helped non-violent inmates attend the funeral of a parent.

Hollis is 39, 5 feet 9 inches tall, dark skinned with brown eyes and weighs approximately 165 pounds.
