Albany - Construction of a new skatepark in downtown Albany is set to begin in January. The half-million dollar skatepark will be built on land at East Oglethorpe and College Drive next to the Flint River.
The park will have ramps for skate boarders and in-line skaters and a shop carrying skating apparel and supplies. "The equipment is set to be delivered in February, and we hope to be up and running by early summer," said Tommy Chatmon, ATI President.
Albany Tomorrow leaders said the project was delayed, in part, because a developer wanted to build town homes on the site. ATI decided to go ahead and build the skatepark. All the equipment can be moved easily to another site if necessary.
