Albany- It's time to buy tickets for the 2005 King Celebration in Albany. The celebration will be held on January 17th.
This year's theme is "A Symphony of Brotherhood." Dozens of Dougherty students turned that theme into impressive art for the 4th annual Youth Art Competition. The competition allows students to study the history of Martin Luther King Junior and the Civil Rights movement through their passion for art. "It's not just art for art sake," said Eddie McCarty, Albany Area Arts Council. "It has a theme, it teaches something. That's what we try to do with our art programs for students. It's a learning experience for them as well as an artistic expression."
The student art will be on display at Thronateeska this month.
The money raised from the King Celebration goes to the Civil Right's Museum and an organization chosen for its work to help children.
