Albany -- A Dougherty County woman was beaten with a hammer and raped and police say her ex-boyfriend did it.

Investigators say 27 year old Sedrick Hodges attacked the 23 year old woman at a home on Mock Road last week, and then stole her Jeep Grand Cherokee. The S.U.V. was found in Fitzgerald over the weekend, where Hodges has family.

Dougherty County Police Lt. Stephen Mitchum said "She was taken to the hospital, and then transferred to another hospital. We don't want to release that information for her protection. But she has had to have surgery due to this assault."

The victim is recovering from the attack and is under police protection. If you have any information about Sedrick Hodges, call the Dougherty County Police at 430-6600.
