Food bank provides holiday meals for seniors

November 18, 2004

Valdosta - A South Georgia food bank needs your help to help feed hungry senior citizens this Thanksgiving.

America's Second Harvest will give out about 5,000 boxes of food to needy senior citizens next week. They need volunteers to come in Friday and Saturday to help pack the boxes.

"Most of the seniors are having a very difficult time this year because of the rising costs of medical and heating bills, so a lot of these seniors have to decide whether they're going to pay their bills, get their medicine, or actually feed themselves," said Jennifer Glisson.

The food bank is also collecting donations for the Senior Brown Bag program. A $10.00 donation will provide about 30 pounds of food for a family.
