Lowndes County- A Jeep Cherokee driven by 16 year old Allison Lockerman was headed south on Old Clyattville Road in Lowndes County around 7:30 Saturday night went it ran off the left shoulder of the roadway and flipped several times.
Fifteen year old Michael Smith of Tifton was killed when he was ejected from the SUV. Smith was one of eight teens between the ages of 15 and 18 riding in the vehicle.
"Right now the preliminary report says that the driver was wearing a seatbelt. At this time it appears that all the other occupants were not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash," says Trooper Joshua Brogdon of the Georgia State Patrol.
Six of the eight teens were ejected from the SUV. Four suffered minor injuries and three suffered serious injuries.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation, but troopers say there was a light rain and the road was slick at the time of the wreck.
