Voters say yes to SPLOST

November 3, 2004

Mitchell County - Mitchell County voters passed a sales tax referendum by nearly three-thousand votes.

The extra penny will help buy fire equipment and build substations. That will lower the county's fire rating, and, in turn, lower insurance premiums for homeowners.

Collections from the SPLOST will also fund projects like turning the former Mitchell County High School auditorium into a community theater.

Money will also help finish the Jackson-Davis House renovations in Baconton.

Every city in Mitchell County will also be allotted money for road, street and bridge improvements.
