Thomasville - The Thomas University women’s soccer team erupted for three goals in the first 15 minutes of play to cruise by visiting Belhaven 6-1 in the quarterfinal round of the NAIA Region 13 Tournament.
Claire McCombe scored four goals, while Jordan Turner and Mie Kawashima added one each.
“McCombe just has a nose for the goal,” stated Head Women’s Soccer Coach Eric Faulconer. “She just finds ways to get open around the goal mouth and she is one of our best finishers.”
Darlene Campbell recorded two assists and Donna Cheyne added another for the Lady Night Hawks.
Thomas will now travel to region rival Auburn Montgomery, a 2-0 winner over visiting Reinhardt. AUM defeated Thomas 3-1 earlier in the season.
“We are very familiar with AUM and we knew that the path for the region title would likely go through Montgomery ,” stated Faulconer. “We are looking forward to another great game against the Lady Senators.”
Thomas is now 11-4-2 on the season and finished ranked 10th in the country in the final NAIA Top 25 poll of the season.
It is the first time the program has finished in the top ten in its history.
