Early voting hit in Lee

October 29, 2004

Leesburg-- It's been a record turnout of voters in Lee County.  So much so that poll workers think the lines will be short at some precincts Tuesday.

Poll workers estimated 1,000 people would vote this week.  The actual number of early voters is double that.

One voter wasn't letting a few stares stop her from voting early.  Juanita Golden came to the polls dressed as a clown, "I have two kids at the elementary schools were I am reading so I am between schools and thought I would take the time to vote."

Juanita Golden says poll workers had to check her picture identification twice, making sure it was really her underneath the funny nose and wig.

Two smaller Lee County precincts have already had more than one-third of their registered voters cast a ballot.
