Ice company cited by OSHA

October 28, 2004

Albany - An Albany ice company may be fined by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.

OSHA has issued five citations against Reddy Ice on West Society.

The company is accused of failure to train and certify employees who operate powered industrial trucks, not properly logging broken equipment, and improperly labeling chemical containers and electrical equipment.

The proposed penalty is more than $17,000. The office manager would not comment on the OSHA citations.

In April, former Reddy Ice plant manager Glenn Miller was indicted for embezzling more than $100,000 from the company.

The Reddy Ice facility in Jacksonville, Florida was also cited by OSHA. A worker died in May after being caught in an unguarded ice-leveling machine.

The Reddy Ice Corporation has 15 working days to contest all citations.
