Sylvester-- A policeman was honored Wednesday for saving the life of a teenager seriously injured in a skateboarding accident. Officer Jim Brooks received a certificate of appreciation from the Police Chief and City Manager.

On October 21st, 16-year-old Eric Rogers tried to skateboard while hanging onto the back on a truck, but fell and suffered severe spinal injures.

Brooks was the first official on the scene. "I feared he had seriously injures. So, I applied pressure to his neck on his c-spine to keep the neck stable. He was thrashing around a bit, so I had to calm him down and let him know it was going to be all right."

Brooks' training and quick thinking kept the boy's spine injury from possible cutting off his breathing.

Eric Rogers was transferred to Egleston Hospital in Atlanta and is expected to be OK.
