CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) _ Georgia Southern rode the legs of senior quarterback Chaz Williams who rushed for 133 yards and a career-high four touchdowns to lead the Eagles past The Citadel 42-to-7 in Southern Conference football action today.
With the victory, Georgia Southern (7-1, 6-0 SoCon) clinched a share of the Southern Conference title, its seventh in eight years. The Eagles turned it on late in the first quarter and never looked back as they jumped out to a 28-to-0 halftime lead.
Williams scored on runs of two yards, 31 yards and ten yards in the first half. The Citadel (1-5, 0-3) got on the board with 48 seconds remaining in the half when freshman quarterback Duran Lawson connected with sophomore wide receiver Gary Domanski on a 25-yard pass.
The score capped a seven-play, 80-yard drive. Bulldog freshman tailback Montrell Lee gained a career-high 123 yards on 21 carries.
