Albany-- An American tradition has been pulled off the airways and Albany supporters say that could be a good thing.

ABC dropped the Miss America pageant because of poor ratings.

Wendy Mathis has been involved with the Ms. America organization for twenty years and now serves on the state board.

She says changes made to the 80-year-old pageant to make it more TV friendly were not popular with the group.

Mathis says, "We are looking at ABC not renewing the contract as a good thing because hopefully this will give us the opportunity to go back to the basic values and principals the pageant was founded on, such as talent."

Last year, only the top two contestants were able to perform their talent, which Mathis says is unfair to the other participants who work years mastering their craft.
