Leesburg - When the high school softball season begins in Georgia, every team has one goal, make it to Columbus which hosts the elite eight.
To get to Columbus, you first have to make it out of sectional play.
The Lee County Lady Trojans are heading to the AAAA south sectionals in Dublin on Friday as the number one seed after winning their first ever region title in fast pitch softball.
This is the third straight year Lee County has made it to the state playoffs after making it to theAAAAA sectionals the last two years.
The Lady Trojan program has made big strides in only four years of playing fast pitch softball. The next goal for the Lee County softball team is to make it to the elite eight and the Lady Trojans are hoping this is the year they finally reach that goal.
Catcher Lindsey Landrenau said "It is a major goal for us. We keep talking that we are going to go to state. If you have a positive attitude about it I think you can get there."
Pitcher/3rd baseman Whitney Yeatts said "We knew we were going to win region this year. We just had that attitude and when we won it we are keeping that attitude and we are going and we know that we are going to do well in this tournament and we just want to go further and further and further."
Lee County will play Westside-Macon at four o'clock on Friday in the first round of the state sectionals.
Thomas County Central plays Stockbridge at four also.
At six, Bainbridge will play Hardaway and Ware County opens with Henry County.
4 teams from this 16 team sectional will advance to the elite eight next week in Columbus.
