Police chief search continues

October 19, 2004

Albany City Commissioners were holding off on the search for a new police chief while the consolidation is under consolidation.

But Tuesday, they decided to go forward with the search to replace former Chief Bobby Johnson, even though they are still interested in looking at consolidation.

The commission hired an executive search firm to recruit people for the job. Chief Bobby Johnson was forced to retire after a review panel determined Johnson had violated hiring policy in recent years, putting unreliable people on the force.

Assistant Chief Bob Boren is serving as interim chief.
