Historical marker unveiled in Worth Co.

October 5, 2004

Worth County- The Worth County Historical Society unveiled a marker Tuesday that tells the story of the Battle of the Blankets.

The sign posted along Georgia highway 300 denotes the place where the Creek indians defeated the Appalachees by tricking them into thinking they were sleeping inside rolled up blankets.

"This battle was so decisive and nobody knew about it so I sdaid we need to know about this, and a lot of kids don't like history so I'm hoping that if they'll read this marker they'll pick up a book and read," says Project researcher Alice Jones.

The marker is located on River Bend Plantation just north of Oakfield.
