Albany- Without a chief, the Albany Police Department may be primed for consolidation with Dougherty County Police. The City Manager and Mayor will meet with the County Commission Chairman and County Administrator about a possible merger.
If the county isn't for consolidation, city commissioners say the search for a chief should go ahead immediately.
"Right now, we're going to lay low in the search process, but I don't want to stop it entirely," said City Manager Janice Allen Jackson. "We don't want to lose momentum if there are good people out there interested in applying for the position."
Last Tuesday, city commissioners put the search for a police chief on hold to look into possible police department merger. Bob Boren is interim chief.
