October 1, 2004 Albany-- An attorney representing a fire captain suing the Albany Fire Department says the city should review their hiring practices as well.
Captain Roderick Jolivette filed a federal lawsuit against the Albany Fire Department and it's chiefs in 2003, claiming discrimination in promotions and job practices.
"The city of Albany has taken the opportunity to review the hiring practices of the Albany Police Department," said Attorney Maurice King. "At this time they ought take the opportunity to review the hiring practices of the Albany Fire Department."
A 16-year veteran, Jolivette is still a fire captain. October 11th. City of Albany attorneys will ask a federal judge to strike Jolivette's lawsuit against the Fire Department. If his case goes to trial, it should be early next year.
