Atlanta-- Former President Jimmy Carter is celebrating his 80th birthday. The South Georgia native paid a visit to the carter presidential library in Atlanta Friday where a crowd had gathered to celebrate his life.
Carter says he's "blessed" and has learned a great deal over the past eight decades. He also says he's lucky to have left the white house at the age of 56 so he could pursue other projects.
Nowadays, he enjoys writing, painting, mountain climbing and furniture making.
Carter was the 39th president, has worked for international human rights and received the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002. He still travels to impoverished nations and says "there's always time to extend your heart and mind."
He still lives in plains.
