Albany - It's that time of year again, time to protect yourself from a bug that could put you out of commission for several days.

The Dougherty County Public Health Department is giving flu shots. Elderly and children are at high risk for complications.

Health officials don't expect a vaccine shortage like the one last year when there was a nationwide flu outbreak. Public Health Nurse, Carrie Drake, says, "There was a shortage of flu shots and we were skimping to get everybody covered, but this time I don't think we'll have to go through that, there's going to be a lot of flu vaccine for everybody."

The virus spreads from infected people to the nose or throat of others.

Thirty-six-thousand people die in America each year from the flu.
