Man charged with stealing tons of metal

September 23, 2004

Colquitt County -- A Colquitt County man is arrested for stealing tons of steel sheeting from a construction site in Dougherty County.

50-year-old Terry Lamb was charged with theft by taking. Part of the 41,000 dollars worth of metal siding was recovered in a pasture in southwestern Colquitt County at Lamb's home on Merritt Road.

Investigators say the truck driver stopped at a construction site on Clark Avenue May Tenth and used his fork lift to steal the metal. Dougherty County Police Lt. Dennis Dawson said "He was driving for a sod farm here in Moultrie, and he was passing through Albany and picked it up on a construction site."

Investigators say they got a tip Lamb was trying to sell the metal.

Police have taken out warrants for another man in the theft, Frank Martinez.
