Clinch County - A fugitive from North Carolina leads South Georgia police on a high speed chase.

Thirty-three year old Joseph Peacock was taken into custody after speeding through a road block in Echols County early Thursday morning. A deputy was taking him to the Clinch County Jail, but stopped at an accident on Highway 84.

When he got out, Peacock jumped in the driver's seat and took off. Clinch County deputies chased him down Highway 84, but when he turned onto a dead end road, he got out and ran. Tracking dogs found him shortly afterwards hiding in the woods.

He's wanted in North Carolina for burglary and forced entry. Now he's also charged with escape, aggravated assault with a motor vehicle, and damage to government property.
