Albany-- Assistant Chief Bob Boren will fill in as Albany's Police Chief.

Boren will be the interim chief starting this Saturday, until a police chief is hired. Police Chief Bobby Johnson's official last day is Friday. He asked to stay on the job until January, but City Manager Janice Allen Jackson bumped up the retirement after this week's police murder suicide.

An independent review panel found Johnson did not follow policy when hiring at least nine officers. The new police chief hiring process will start immediately, but a deadline has not been set.
